6th year at Pembroke I love how hugely varied paediatrics is and the holistic nature to patient care. Children are so much fun to work with and I think it’s an immense privilege to care for children and young people early in their life, where the input of a paediatrician can have such an incredible long-term impact.

At fitz, Year 6. I love that in paediatrics watching disney films is actively encouraged both on and off the wards! Fun fact: When I was 6 I was obsessed with robin hood and watched the film twice a day every day over the summer holidays

6th year at Gonville and Caius. Why I love paeds - get to see a great mix of children from all ages and backgrounds, can't think of a job that can be so much fun whilst also helping people get better! Silly story - wanting to practice my swimming on the school playground and diving head first off the bench - my mum was not happy when she had to deal with the mess that got send home!

5th year at Robinson College What I love about paediatrics: I love the variety - the huge range of conditions that you're trained to recognise and treat, how each age is unique in their own fascinating ways, and of course how adorable they are! Funny story: When I was a baby, the first time I tried chocolate I fell in love with it so much that went through a tantrum phase where I'd refuse to eat anything that didn't contain chocolate... So, my first favourite meal was alternating spoonfuls of spaghetti bolognese and chocolate!

5th year at Queens Why I love paeds: Paediatrics is such a varied specialty! Funny story of me as a child: I set up a ‘snail farm’ in our front garden at home one afternoon when my parents were gardening and tried to sell them to our neighbours, and got very upset when nobody bought any!

6th year at Wolfson college Why you love paediatrics: I really like the variety of paeds - the scope of disease from premature babies to teenagers is huge. I also really enjoy how you can make history taking and examination into a game when you're working with kids - the baby cuddles are an added bonus. Funny story from when you were little: When I was in year 3, I injured my leg on zip-wire requiring surgery. I cried hysterically, not due to the pain but because I was going to have to miss poetry week at school.

6th year (arrrghhh!!) at Sidney Sussex Why you love paediatrics: I love how you can be so creative in paediatrics - from making examinations fun to adapting how we take our histories. I also love how much variety there is in paediatrics and how general the career can be - there's such a range of ages with different typical presentations as well as so many different social contexts to consider, which makes it a great career for continually pushing myself and developing. Funny story from when you were little: As a baby, I'd refuse to sleep unless I was being driven in a car!! My parents had to take me out for 2 am car rides to stop me from crying and sleep! I think this instantly made my younger brother the star child... Sorry Mum and Dad!!!!

6th year Murray Edwards What I love about paediatrics: It’s so varied - within one clinic/ward round you can go from seeing a cute baby to dealing with older teenagers! There’s such a friendly atmosphere and everyone works well together as a team. Story about me as a child: I wasn’t allowed to eat bananas for a lot of my childhood because someone told my mum that it would cure glue ear!

2nd year at Clare College Why you love paediatrics: seeing happy children puts a smile on my face! I love working with children and also paediatric hospitals must be the most colourful clinical environments ever, with colour-coordinated wards and names like 'Dolphin' and 'Sunflower' wards! Funny story from when you were little: I first came to England when I was 5, and so started reception. One morning, we learnt to make toast. I was so bewildered by the concept of sliced bread. And toasters. And butter. And jam. I subsequently gained an unhealthy obsession with 'Tommy the toaster' until I was around 7 and discovered Coco Pops for the first time.

6th year at Gonville and Caius college What I love about paediatrics - I love the feeling of being involved in making a sick kid feel better, and the constant smile on everybody’s faces! Silly story - when I was 2, my mum saw me sticking my tongue into a snail (apparently I was curious what it tasted like) and she freaked out and took me to A&E!

6th year at Wolfson College Why I love paediatrics: For me, paediatrics is one of the unique fields where you not only help the children but also indirectly take care of the parent's wellbeing. In both cases, you have the privilege and opportunity to make positive long-term impacts. Funny childhood story: When I was 7 I was in love with Legos. I was often building and taking apart different sets. Unfortunately, it also meant there were plenty of Legos lying around to get stepped on.
