Comfort Club is a service on the neonatal unit at the Rosie Hospital, Addenbrooke’s. The scheme is run by student doctors from the University of Cambridge Clinical School, who wish to gain additional clinical experience whilst supporting babies and their families on the Neonatal Unit. Students sign up to provide comfort care and cuddles to babies to support them at times when parents can not be present on the unit. Students receive additional training in infant development and care skills in order to become a ‘Cuddler’. Each student spends at least 2 hours per week on the neonatal unit to provide this service.
The aims of the scheme are to:
- Provide comfort care and cuddles to infants on NICU when their parents are unable to be there
- Provide additional clinical experience to students with an interest in Paediatrics
